We were commissioned by the Kalisz City Council to develop a concept for the renovation of an abandoned swimming pool, which had been a wasteland for years and was an unattractive element of the urban space. The city was looking for innovative ideas to develop the area. The available space of about 480 sq. m. did not allow for the creation of a skatepark of a scale and momentum similar to the facility realized for The Pool competition in East London 12 years ago. Nevertheless, the space proved sufficient to design an advanced bowl with different depth levels: 1.35m, 1.95m, 2.00m and 3.50m.
In our concept, in addition to the central element, which is the bowl, we decided to include additional elements that increase the functionality and attractiveness of the skatepark. The facility additionally includes: a line bank, a funbox with a grindbox, as well as a vert wall. There is also a mobile handrail and a manual pad, which will allow park users to polish their technique and perfect tricks at different levels.
Such a diversity of elements is intended to attract a wide audience - both beginners and advanced skateboarding enthusiasts, making the space once again a lively and attractive community gathering place.
